Welcome to Africa!
Mwaiseni! Bemba (Zambia)
Kuwakaribisha! Swahili (Kenya, Tanzania…)
As you may have probably read, my name is Chisala Chamaombe. I am currently a third year international student at the University of British Columbia. I was born in and predominantly raised in Zambia, but I have had the opportunity to live in other countries within Africa and beyond. Thus I have been exposed to and appreciate the worlds various cultures and people.
So what am I going to be blogging about?
I intend to discuss insightful topics that range from African politics to entertainment and tourism. Most importantly, I intend to reveal a side of Africa that is often overshadowed by negative generalizations. You know what I am talking about; the poverty, endless droughts and the violence the media bombard you with. Although these calamities do occur, allow me to show you that there is much more than poverty and disease. Mother Africa is the cradle of humanity, warmth and fellowship. It is a vibrant continent with numerous rich cultures and languages, unique in it’s numerous traditions. Traditions that remain with the continent as numerous countries are evolving, globalizing and awakening to their economic potential.
