Pine Beetle Infestation Turns BC Forests into Atmospheric Carbon Source

This just out in Nature:

BC researchers estimate the Pine beetle to be responsible for more than 5 times the carbon dioxide emissions released from all the automobiles and planes in Canada in a year – approximately 80,000 square km of trees. By 2020, BC forests may be a net source of CO2, instead of a net sink.
